A Longford firm is trying to help alleviate BP's woes by sending three state-of-the-art choke valves to assist efforts to cap the blown-out well in the Gulf of Mexico.

three massive valves to the USA last week and it is hoped that they can be used to help cap the oil flowing from the damaged oil well.
The specialised valves, which weigh nearly a tonne, were designed by local engineers in Cameron and are valued at around ?100,000 each.
BP bosses sent out an urgent message for help in finding the specialist Bellow Seal Valves
valves it needed for its latest plan to plug the oil spill and Longford's Cameron were there to help.
Speaking to the Leader this week the company's Subsea Product Manager, David Simpson said: "With BP being one of our important customers globally, we reacted immediately when we got the call from our Houston headquarters, to supply some subsea chokes for a contingency operation they were planning on the Cryogenic Valves
leaking Macondo 252 well.
"Typical delivery of these custom engineered subsea valves is 14 to 16 weeks but because of the time constraints we had to think again.
"We contacted one of our customers in Norway who we had supplied a numberForged Steel Valves
of specialised choke valves to and agreed with them to purchase back three of these chokes and supply them to the BP effort in the Gulf of Mexico."
The Subsea chokes were then air freighted directly from Norway to one of Cameron's facilities in Houston for testing before being transported to BPs site in the Gulf of Mexico.
Cameron Ireland established its plant in Longford in 1978. The Longford facility specialises in the development, design and manufacture of custom engineered flow control and chemical injection technologies for the subsea oil and gas industry.
The products and services are recognised internationally and Cameron Longford supply the equipment to a worldwide market with more than 2,000 Longford designed and manufactured Subsea chokeTitanium Valve Series
valves (a throttling valve used to control the pressure or flow rate of the oil or gas coming out of the well) having been supplied since1975.
Each year Cameron Longford supplies approximately 50 percent of the world wide demand for these specialised products
